As we head towards the winter conditions now is the time to start thinking about protecting your holiday home. Here are some steps you can take to help reduce the risk of damage:

Drain Downs

If your holiday home is going to be left for a prolonged period, the best and most important way to protect it is to perform a drain down. This process drains all the water from the pipes, boiler and other appliances and helps to avoid costly damage when you return to your holiday home in the new season.

If water freezes in the pipes or boiler this can cause extreme damage. Even smaller issues like split pipes or a cracked cistern, caused by frozen water often lead to bigger issues, like the escape of water. A flooded caravan isn’t just the pipes, it may mean a whole new living room suite or kitchen which could lead to thousands of pounds worth of repairs.

Draining down your caravan couldn’t be any easier, because for a small fee The Bodafon Group can take care of this for you. All you need to do is complete a drain down form, tell us what date you would like you holiday home drained down from and then make the payment. The rest is all taken care of by us.

Re-connection of your holiday home requires 3 days’ notice, in order for it to be ready when you return. This can be done by emailing enquiries@bodafonpark.co.uk or phoning us on 01248 852417.

Please call or e-mail or e-mail the head office if you require a form.

Outside your Holiday Home

Here in Anglesey we can experience very high winds and we recommend you take your awning down at the end of August, but if you haven’t already done so, now is the perfect time to do it. It is also recommended that you secure any outside furniture and move any important outside ornaments etc indoors. It is also recommended that you check all draining channels (Downspouts/gutters etc) are clear and any debris is removed.

Inside your Holiday Home

When leaving your holiday home for the last time of the season please ensure that all windows, skylights and doors are locked and that all fridge/freezers are emptied. Please do not leave any perishable foods inside your holiday home. In addition to this it is suggested that you place moisture traps or bowls of salt in every room to help absorb any moisture in the air. It is also recommended that any cushions and seat pads are removed and placed in the middle of the room and that any duvets, pillows are removed from the caravan or placed in vacuum bag, this will help to protect them from any damp. Following this leave all cupboard and interior doors open to allow the air to circulate as much as possible. Unplug all electricals and remove any batteries to avoid corrosion.

Following these simple steps will help to ensure that when you return to your holiday home it will be just as you left it and ready for you to enjoy the new season with us.
